Privacy Policy

Overview

This policy explains what data Ping Happens collects when you create an account and configure monitoring services, how that data is used and protected, and what happens if you ask us to delete it.

Account data

When you create a Ping Happens account, we store:

Your name and email address, which identify your account and are shown next to any service you mark public.
Your password, which is never stored in plain text — only a salted, one-way hash of it.

Service and monitoring rule data

When you create a service and its monitoring rules, we store what is needed to run the checks you configure:

The service name and whether you've marked it public or private.
Each rule's target URL, HTTP method, schedule, request headers, and request body/payload.
Any authentication token or webhook credential you provide for a rule is encrypted at rest and is never sent back to you or shown in the dashboard once saved — only whether one is set.

Only add headers or tokens with the narrowest permissions the monitored endpoint requires — see our Terms of Service for why.

Monitoring execution data

Every time a rule runs, we record the response status code, response time, and a truncated copy of the response body, so you can review a service's check history. If a rule triggers a webhook action, the configured target URL also receives the check result. Because response bodies come from the endpoint you're monitoring, avoid pointing checks at endpoints whose responses contain data you wouldn't want stored in your check history — especially for services marked public, where check history is visible to anyone who views the service's public page.

Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in on the website. It is essential to the service, stores no tracking data, and cannot be read by page scripts. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies.

Advertising

We intend to display Google-served advertising (e.g. Google AdSense) on this site in the future to help cover hosting costs. When enabled, Google and its partners may set cookies and use your visit data to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's advertising policy.

How we use and share your data

Your data is used solely to run, operate, and improve Ping Happens. We do not sell your data or share it with third parties, except: the target and webhook URLs you configure (which necessarily receive requests from our monitoring workers), service providers we rely on to run the infrastructure itself, advertising partners once the Advertising section above is active, and where required by law.

Data security

Passwords are hashed, monitoring credentials are encrypted at rest, and access to your services is restricted to your account and, where necessary for support, our administrators. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — see our Terms of Service.

Data retention and deletion

Deleting a service removes that service and its entire check history from the website and API and marks it for deletion in 90 days.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. Continued use of Ping Happens after an update means you accept the revised policy.
